It's gonna be a new chapter. Actually, I'm thinking of this single release as the first the chapter. Anything we've done up until now has been part of the preface. Our new single is set to be released on ***JANUARY 29*** which will be immediately followed by a a clean, neat little micro-tour. We'll be starting in Ottawa, going through Kingston, Toronto and then back home to Hamilton. Alongside us will be Ottawa's High Waters. An awesome band who allowed us the honour of opening for their Gather Wish EP release show last year. Here are the official tour dates:
Funny enough, it's been a short year. Or at least a fast year. If my count is right, we plugged 39 shows this year so far and will be making it an even 40 on Saturday. We are so excited to finish the year in Hamilton that we decided to put a Christmas set together. If you're wondering what it will sound like, picture Bing Crosby... naked. And disappointed at what we've done to his merry little Christmas tune.
Between getting this set together and recording, we have kept quite busy for the last while. Recording is coming along great, and you can expect to have a brand new single to listen to not far into the New Year.
We have been careful to not talk about recording because we have been a little fickle. Last summer, I started Illitry as a solo project because it's hard to find committed band members. I didn't have much money, and virtually no connections, so I thought I would basically produce an album on my own. Well, Illitry has developed immensely since then, turning into an official 2-piece electronic project, with drum and bass appendages! We have played a true boat-load of shows. From dirty dirty Toronto house shows to opening for a couple dates of Eight and a Half's tour!
Anyway, recording. We were still fumbling around in the dark of an everlasting winter, trying to figure out how we could make the best record with the few resources we had when we were approached by Michael Keire of Threshold Studios. We were already in love with one of his most recent projects, New Hands, so it was a very enticing prospect.
Long story short: all the drums were tracked on Supercrawl weekend by our exceptionally talented drummer, Anthony James. And now we're working on the bass. We have not set a release date yet, but it is not too far off. And even sooner than that, we will make sure to soothe your appetite while you wait. (More on that to come).
Next week, we have the honour of opening for ZAMMUTO! This is the new musical endeavour of former The Books member, Nick Zammuto. It's a big one for us. Arts and Crafts band SNOWBLINK is also on the bill. We are quite humbled to be offered this gig, and we really hope that our Hamilton friends can come celebrate this opportunity with us!
